World Series Shootout (10/20/1993)
32 years ago, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 of the World Series, and it was not your average baseball game. The final score was 15-14, which to this day holds as the record for the highest scoring World Series game in MLB history. It was a wild game that was packed with action, including a Blue Jay’s 6-run 8th inning to take the game back in their favor.
Toronto went on to win it all, which was their second in a row and made them the 13th all-time back-to-back champions.
This Friday, the Blue Jays began their run for what they hope will be their 3rd ever World Series title. Oh and the Dodgers have the chance to become the 15th ever back-to-back champions.
Monday Night Miracle (10/23/2000)
25 years ago, the New York Jets pulled off the largest 4th quarter comeback in Monday Night Football history. The Miami Dolphins led the Jets 30-7 entering the 4th quarter, but QB Vinny Testaverde wasn’t done yet. Testaverde went on to tally 4 passing touchdowns in the final 14 minutes, including a game-tying TD with 42 seconds remaining to left tackle, John “Jumbo” Elliott. The Jets went on to win the game 40-37 in overtime.
So, let's all stop talking about the Broncos comeback against the Giants and start talking about this one. Okay?
Fun Fact: the Dolphins’ game-leading receiver was Oronde Gadsden, the father of rookie TE Oronde Gadsden II, who had 164 yards and a TD for the Chargers last week. Hope you had a successful waiver claim.
Quarterback, Receiver, Guard, Coach (10/21/2000)
Also 25 years ago, wide receiver Antwaan Randle El (a real throwback name) of the Indiana Hoosiers became the first player in Big Ten history to pass for 200+ yards AND rush for 200+ yards in the same game. And this wasn’t garbage time stuff, he had 2 rushing TD’s in the last 5 minutes to beat Minnesota 51-43.
As many know, Randal El went on to be drafted in the 2nd round by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a WR and played in the NFL for 9 years. Following his playing career, he became the Assistant Offensive Coach of the Buccaneers (2019), which is the year Jameis threw 5000 yards, then the Wide Receivers Coach for the Lions (2020-2024), and this season he serves as the Bears Wide Receivers Coach.
Fun Fact: Randal El was also a Guard on the Hoosiers basketball team. Athlete.
