Good morning! It is October 15th and October baseball is doing what it does best, making history. Max Muncy set a Dodgers postseason record with his 14th career homer, while the Tyler Skaggs trial opened in Texas, putting one of baseball’s darkest stories back in focus. Over in the NBA, Jason Kidd secured a revamped deal with the Mavericks, proving job security still exists somewhere in sports. We have more to cover so make sure you catch it all!

The Game Plan:

The Must Knows

NFL

  • The Ravens released safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson after he and team officials reached what his agent Kevin Conner described as “an amicable mutual decision.”

  • The Commanders signed pass rusher Drake Jackson. The former 49er missed all of last season after tearing his patellar tendon. Washington GM Adam Peters was part of the San Francisco front office that drafted him in 2022.

  • Charles Leno Jr. announced his retirement after a 10-year NFL career. The former Pro Bowler started 149 games for the Bears and Commanders.

MLB

  • The Dodgers took a 2-0 series lead over the Brewers as Max Muncy hit his 14th career postseason home run, setting a new franchise record.

  • Opening statements began Tuesday in the wrongful death trial over Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs’ 2019 overdose. A lawyer for Skaggs’ family said the Angels should be held responsible for failing to follow their own drug policies and allowing an addicted employee to supply players with drugs.

NBA

  • The Mavericks and head coach Jason Kidd have agreed to a revamped contract extension that boosts his salary and runs through at least the 2027-28 season.

NHL

  • Senators captain Brady Tkachuk will be out at least four weeks with a hand injury, per HC Travis Green, who said surgery hasn’t been ruled out.

  • The Rangers lost 2-0 to the Oilers and became the first team in NHL history to be shut out in their first three home games of a season.

World Cup

  • President Donald Trump threatened to pull 2026 World Cup games from Gillette Stadium, claiming Boston has been “taken over” by unrest.
