Good morning! Today is October 17th, and starting today, Fridays will look a little different! Based on feedback, we will be turning Friday into strictly a look ahead to the weekend. You all asked, so we deliver! Make sure to check everything out to know it all before heading into the weekend. Happy Friday!

The Game Plan:

The Must Knows

NFL

  • The Bengals beat the Steelers 33-31 in a battle of 40-year-old quarterbacks. Joe Flacco targeted Ja’Marr Chase 23 times, tied for the third most in a game since 1978.

MLB

  • The Dodgers beat the Brewers 3-1 to take a 3-0 lead in the NLCS, and now Shohei Ohtani will pitch Game 4 with a chance to send LA to the World Series.

  • Max Scherzer led the Blue Jays to an 8-2 win over the Mariners to even the ALCS. He became just the fourth pitcher aged 41 or older to win a postseason game.

  • Tarik Skubal and the Tigers are reportedly $250 million apart in contract talks, per Jon Heyman. The Detroit ace is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season.

NBA

  • The Charlotte Hornets waived guard Spencer Dinwiddie. The veteran has averaged 13.0 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds over 11 NBA seasons.

  • Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent a knee procedure to address discomfort and will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

College Football

  • Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti agreed to an eight-year extension worth ~$11.6 million/year. He’s 6-0 in his second season, after leading the Hoosiers to their first-ever Playoff last year.

  • Pablo Torre reported that North Carolina GM Michael Lombardi left the team two weeks before the season opener to seek fundraising in Saudi Arabia.
